Madhya Pradesh, popularly known as the 'Tiger State', is known for its tiger population and conservation. As per the 2022 census, Madhya Pradesh has 785 tigers, the highest in the country. Of these, 563 tigers are in tiger reserves and 222 are in tiger reserves and outside tiger reserves (protected areas). Due to the closure of tiger safaris from July to September, tourism activities in tiger reserves are reduced, affecting the local community, hotel operators and beneficiaries associated with tourism. Keeping this fact in mind, the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, in collaboration with the Forest Department and the local district administration, has launched a series of activities including jungle safaris, nature walks, tree-house stays, village visits and stargazing in the buffer zone to enhance the tourist experience. Workshops will be organized in tiger reserves, starting with Pench National Park, to bring all the stakeholders on one platform.
Shri Shiv Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary, Tourism and Culture Department and Managing Director, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board said that Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board is committed to responsible tourism and is focusing on minimising environmental impact and ensuring the participation of local communities. It aims to maintain tourism activities even during July to September and generate employment opportunities for local residents by increasing cooperation with the Forest Department, local administration and tourism stakeholders.
