Due to severe heat first and then rain, the prices of food items have started skyrocketing. Potato, onion and tomato have hit people's pockets hard. The situation in Delhi NCR has become very bad.
Now to provide relief to the common man from these rising prices, the National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India (NCCF) has decided to sell tomatoes at Rs 60 per kg in Delhi NCR from Monday.
According to data from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the retail price of tomatoes in Delhi was Rs 77 per kg on July 27. Depending on the quality and location, rates have gone up to over Rs 80 per kg in some areas. Heavy rains in tomato producing areas for the last few days have affected supplies.
NCCF said that the mega sale will start from July 29, 2024. Gradually it will be implemented in all areas of Delhi NCR. Subsidy sale of tomatoes will currently take place in Krishi Bhawan, CGO Complex, Lodhi Colony, Hauz Khas, Parliament Street, INA Market and various areas of Noida, Rohini and Gurugram. According to NCCF, with the help of this sale, we want to stop the rising prices of tomatoes in the market. Apart from this, consumers will also benefit from this.
According to NCCF, the government is concerned about the rising prices of tomatoes. We want to benefit the customers. Our effort is to ensure that the burden of rising prices due to various reasons does not fall on the consumers. Let us tell you that in the same period last year, the price of tomatoes had reached Rs 165 per kg. This year the rates of tomatoes are almost half.
