Mumbai: Three youths died when a four-storey residential building collapsed in CBD Belapur area of Navi Mumbai this morning. Two people were injured after being buried under the debris. At the same time, 52 people including 13 children were rescued by time index.
Rescue operations have been carried out with the help of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Fetter Brigade, Municipality, Police. Police have taken cognizance of the matter and are investigating further. Many vehicles were buried under the debris.
A four-storey building located in Shahbaz Village in CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai developed a crack at around 5:30 AM today when the residents were sleeping. After this, around 52 residents including children, women, men and elderly ran out to save their lives. Then the building collapsed with a bang. Five people were buried under the debris of the building.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Kailash Shinde said a four-storey building comprising 13 flats and three shops collapsed this morning, and a man and a woman trapped under the debris were rescued. They were admitted to a hospital.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and fire brigade, municipal corporation personnel launched the rescue operation. One body was found under the debris this afternoon, while the bodies of two others were recovered hours later, a municipal official said.
The deceased were identified as Mohammed Miraj Altaf Hussain (age 30), Miraj Saif Ansari (age 24), Safiq Ahmad Rehmat Ali Ansari (age 28). Their bodies were sent to a government hospital for post-mortem, he said.
According to the Municipal Commissioner, the building was 10 years old and the cause of the accident will be investigated. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation's Divisional Fire Officer Purushottam Jadhav said that after noticing cracks in the building, the residents informed the authorities about the cracks. A fire brigade team reached the spot and evacuated fifty-two residents. The building collapsed after some time.
Lal Mohammad (age 22) and Rukhsana (age 21) were rescued from the debris around 6 am. Officials later found out that a man was trapped under the debris when rescuers tried to call his cell phone. But the call was not received. They later found out that the youth's two friends were also with him, the official said. The dog squad also helped the rescue team.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was in Delhi for the Niti Aayog Governing Council meeting and spoke to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner. He directed that necessary assistance be provided to the injured and affected, an official statement from the Thane district administration said.
An NDRF official said that the search is on to find out if there is anyone else buried under Kotmal. The debris is being removed.

Early this morning a rickshaw driver came near the building, he suspected cracks in the pillar of the building. He found the situation serious. He informed the residents about the matter. The fire brigade was also informed about the incident. Fifty-two residents came out of the building within a few minutes. It is said that this saved the lives of many people.

Mumbai: In the case of collapse of three-storey building in Navi Mumbai, Deputy Chief Minister of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Devendra Fadnavis has given instructions to take strict action against the culprits.
Fadnavis gave the above information through a tweet regarding the building accident in Belapur, Navi Mumbai.
When this incident happened, the commissioner of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation immediately reached the spot. The municipality has made arrangements for the residents evacuated from the building to stay in a shelter center. Devendra Fadnavis ordered the Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner and Police Commissioner to take strict action against the culprits who carried out this incident.
Apart from this, the Chief Minister of the state Eknath Shinde ordered the concerned to arrange for immediate relief and assistance to the people affected by the accident. When he went to the meeting of NITI Aayog in Delhi, he gave the above order there.
