New Delhi, 27 July (HS). Amid rising prices of tomatoes in the National Capital Region (Delhi-NCR), the Central Government has decided to sell tomatoes at a subsidized rate to provide relief to the people. The National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India (NCCF) will sell tomatoes at the rate of Rs 60 per kg from Monday. However, the retail price of tomatoes in the capital Delhi is Rs 60-80 per kg.
In a statement issued on Saturday, NCCF said that the facility of providing tomatoes to consumers at the rate of Rs 60 per kg will start on July 29. This facility will be gradually extended to other places in Delhi-NCR in the coming days. The association said that subsidized tomatoes will be available at Krishi Bhawan, CGO Complex, Lodhi Colony, Hauz Khas, Sansad Marg, INA Market and other places including Noida, Rohini and Gurugram.
At the same time, according to the data of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the retail price of tomatoes in Delhi on July 27 was Rs 77 per kg. But depending on the quality and locality, its price is more than Rs 80 per kg in some areas. The government has taken this step at a time when tomato prices have risen due to supply disruptions due to recent rains in the producing centers. NCCF said that these interventions underline the efforts of the central government to reduce the impact of rising food prices on consumers. The initiative aims to stabilize the market and provide adequate cost relief to consumers.
