Paris Olympics 2024 has started brilliantly. On the first day i.e. today (27 July), Indian shooters were hopeful of a medal but they disappointed. Both the Indian pairs failed to qualify for the finals in the 10m air rifle mixed team event. Elavenik Valarivan and Sandeep Singh finished 12th. While Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta secured sixth place. Ramita-Arjun together scored 628.7 points. While Elavenil-Sandeep scored 626.3 points.

Top-4 teams reached the final
The top 4 teams in the 10m air rifle mixed team event qualified for the medal round. The final of this event is to be played on 27th July itself. It is worth noting here that this was only a medal event for India today. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu holds the record for winning a medal for India on the first day of the Olympic Games. Chanu won the silver medal on the first day of the Tokyo Olympics.

Manu Bhaker-Shift Kaur's Hope India
15 shooters are participating in the competitions. 22-year-old Manu, who has won many medals in world competitions, could not make it out of the 10m air pistol qualification at the Tokyo Olympics after an accident in the pistol. But this time she wants to perform well. She will compete in three events including 10m air pistol, 25m air pistol and 10m pistol mixed team.

India will be challenged mainly by China, which is fielding 21 shooters in various competitions. Another woman shooter in focus will be Sift Kaur Samra, who won the gold medal in 50m rifle 3 position at the Asian Games. Moudgil, one of the experienced shooters, is making a comeback and will play alongside Sift in the women's 50m rifle 3 position. 20-year-old Rhythm Sangwan will compete in two events – 10m air pistol and 10m air pistol mixed team.
