Korba, 27 July (HS). 300 operators and workers have started an indefinite strike in Chotia mine from Saturday. The strike is being held against the premature closure of the mine by Balco Vedanta. Deco Company (Dhansar Engineering Company) was excavating and supplying coal to Balco Vedanta.

It is noteworthy that Balco Vedanta had hired all the workers and operators by taking a tender for three years, but in order to supply more vehicles and coal as soon as possible, the work was ended before the tender period. Now all the operators and workers have started worrying about their livelihood. Everyone is demanding either payment of 14 months' wages or work till the tender period, it has been said that the protest will continue till the demands are not met. Bango police, Morga and Korbi outpost police force are present on the spot and efforts are being made to control the protest.
