According to the data, 82 people lost their lives due to tiger attacks in 2019 and 2020. While 50 people died due to tiger attacks in 2021, 110 in 2022 and 82 in 2023. 50 people died in Uttar Pradesh and 27 in Madhya Pradesh due to tiger attacks.
2,500 killed in elephant-human conflict in five years
According to data published by the central government, 2,853 people have lost their lives due to conflict between elephants and humans during the last five years. In these five years, the highest number of 628 people died in 2023. Responding to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister of State for Environment Kirti Vardhan Singh said that 587 people died due to elephants in 2019, while 471 in 2020, 557 in 20121 and 610 in 2022 and 628 in 2023. According to government data, 624 people died in Odisha during this five-year period. Pradhan said that management of wildlife habitats is the responsibility of the states.
