Sultanpur: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi today appeared in the MP-MLA court in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh in a defamation case against him. He said that the case has been filed to gain cheap popularity.
Gandhi's lawyer Kashi Prasad Shukla told Special Judge Shubham Verma that the Congress MP had never made any statement against anyone that warranted a defamation suit.
On August 4, 2018, a local BJP leader had filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi over objectionable remarks made by Amit Shah at a press conference held in Bengaluru during the Karnataka elections.
The MP-MLA court of Sultanpur has fixed the next hearing of this case on August 12. The statement of the applicant will be recorded on this date.
Advocate Santosh Kumar Pandey, who appeared on behalf of Mishra, said that Rahul Gandhi has filed a statement before the judge and the evidence will be presented on August 12. Congress workers were present in large numbers outside the Sultanpur court this morning.
