Washington, July 26 (HS). The US Justice Department has arrested two notorious gangsters of the Sinaloa Cartel, one of the world's most dangerous, violent and powerful drug trafficking organizations. According to a report in The New York Times newspaper, Mexico's notorious drug mafia and co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel, Ismael El Mayo Zambada, has been arrested by US federal agents in El Paso, Texas.
According to the report, Joaquin Guzman Lopez, son of El Chapo Guzman, who is called the 'Godfather' of the drug smuggling world, has also been arrested. Zambada is accused of manufacturing and smuggling fentanyl and smuggling other drugs (cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine). The US government had announced a reward of Rs 125 crore for his arrest.
It is reported that 76-year-old Zambada and El Chapo Guzman used to commit crimes together. In February, Zambada was accused by US prosecutors of conspiring to manufacture and smuggle fentanyl. This substance is considered more dangerous than heroin. It has been blamed for the US opioid crisis.
US Attorney General Merrick Garland said that these two men lead one of the world's most violent and powerful drug trafficking organizations. El Mayo and Lopez are on the list of major kingpins of the Sinaloa Cartel. Both were arrested while disembarking from the plane. According to a report presented in the US Parliament in July 2018, the annual income of the Sinaloa Cartel is three billion dollars. It has influence in at least 50 countries.
