New Delhi, 26 July (HS). The statue of Captain Hanifuddin of Rajputana Rifles, who sacrificed his life during the Kargil war, was unveiled at his Kerala school in Delhi on Friday. Four scholarships of Rs 15,000 each were started in the name of Captain Hanifuddin in a grand ceremony held in the presence of Colonel of Rajputana Rifles, Lieutenant General ADS Aujla.
During the Kargil war with Pakistan, brave Captain Hanifuddin of 11 Rajputana Rifles laid down his life while fighting valiantly against the enemy in Turtuk sector of Kargil, Ladakh. He was awarded the prestigious Vir Chakra award posthumously for his indomitable courage and sacrifice.
The statue paying tribute to the Kargil hero was unveiled in the presence of Lieutenant General ADS Aujla. He praised the bravery and selflessness of Captain Hanifuddin. The event was aimed at inspiring the younger generation to emulate the values of courage, sacrifice and patriotism of Captain Hanifuddin.
Four scholarships of Rs 15,000 each were launched in the name of Captain Hanifuddin at the event. After paying floral tributes at the unveiling ceremony, the scholarships for this year were distributed. Lieutenant General Aujla delivered a motivational speech to the students. The event was attended by students, teachers and alumni of the school, who paid tribute to the martyred hero.
