The retail price of essential vegetables like tomato, onion and potato has increased from 15 percent to 58 percent in a month. Apart from monsoon, many other important reasons are being considered responsible for the rising prices of vegetables.

However, the central government claimed that this situation is not permanent. Prices will soon come under control in the coming days. But the government also gave the reason for the increase in vegetable prices. In the Economic Survey presented in Parliament, the Central Government has revealed the reasons for the rising prices of vegetables. The government said that during the last two years, agricultural production has been affected due to bad weather, falling reservoir levels and crop damage. That is why the prices of food items are rising rapidly. Bad weather conditions have also affected the production prospects of vegetables and pulses. The report said that bad weather events increased in 2023-24. This caused damage to crops.
