BJP MP from Jharkhand Nishikant Dubey on Thursday called for preparing a National Register of Citizens (NRC), saying the Muslim population was increasing rapidly, and also demanded that West Bengal's Malda and Murshidabad districts be made Union Territories.
Speaking during Zero Hour in Lok Sabha, the Godda MP also said that the tribal population in his home state has declined by 10 per cent and tribal women are marrying Bangladeshi men. He also alleged that the ruling JMM is not taking steps to address the declining tribal population. Dubey said, “I come from Santhal Pargana region – when Santhal Pargana was separated from Bihar in 2000 and became part of Jharkhand, the tribal population in Santhal Pargana was 36%. Today their population is 26%. Where did 10% tribals disappear? This House never cares about them, it does vote bank politics.” He alleged that our state government, JMM and Congress are not taking any action in this regard.
