Ashoknagar, July 25 (HS). Environmentalists of Chhattisgarh are fighting vigorously to save the existence of the city's natural wealth and the city's only water source, Tulsi Sarovar.
In the city, the land mafia is conspiring to erase the existence of the Tulsi Sarovar pond by constructing an island in the name of installing a statue in the lake and constructing a concrete wall in some places, which is illegal as per an order of the Supreme Court.
Since April, environment lover Naveen Sanghvi from Chhattisgarh has been writing letters to Madhya Pradesh Wetland Authority, Bhopal to take action to save the existence of Tulsi Sarovar pond.
In this regard, Sanjeev Singh, Executive Director, EPCO and Member Secretary, State Wetland Authority, citing the Supreme Court order, has been repeatedly asking the collector to direct the concerned officials to stop the construction work in the pond.
In this regard, citing Nitin Sanghvi, a letter has been written to the Collector on 27 July 2024 by the State Wetland Authority Bhopal to inform the Collector about the meeting of the District Wetland Conservation Committee held on 12 June 2024 regarding stopping the construction going on in the pond.
It is stated in the letter that the concerned officers were instructed to take necessary action regarding the installation of the statue and other construction work in the Tulsi Sarovar pond. Please inform us about the status of the case along with point-wise information of the action taken as per the decision taken in the meeting.
On the other hand, environment lover Naveen Sanghvi says that as per the Supreme Court order, construction of islands and other concrete walls in the pond is illegal and is extremely harmful for aquatic life. He also says that despite his correspondence with the Madhya Pradesh Wetland Authority, he is getting evidence of construction work in the pond which is surprising and should be demolished immediately so that the existence of the pond can be saved.
