Mumbai, 25 July (HS). It has been raining continuously since morning today in Thane city and 180 mm of rain has been received in a day. Also, the Meteorological Department had announced a red alert, according to which, as a precaution, emergency arrangements have been kept ready to face any situation. In the backdrop of heavy rains today, Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao visited the emergency room of Thane Municipal Corporation and took stock of the situation of the day, and also ordered the concerned commissioners to declare a holiday in all the schools in the municipal limits due to high tide tomorrow.

The commissioner also mentioned that holiday has been declared for all schools within the municipal limits as a large number of people come even on Fridays and a red alert has been declared. Also, ward committee wise arrangements have been made in the disaster management cell for quick resolution of complaints received from citizens. The commissioner also said that pumps have been installed for draining out water in the low-lying areas of the city and adequate manpower and necessary material have been made available.

Here, to avoid inconvenience to the citizens, the emergency management department in the Municipal Corporation has more than 20 phone facilities running 24×7. Commissioner Saurabh Rao also informed that every phone complaint received is followed up with the concerned department till its resolution is completed.

Due to rain today, pumps were installed in low lying areas of Naupada-Kopari area, Pedhya Maruti Mandir, Vandana Cinema area, CIDCO Bus Depot, Chikhalwadi, Bara Bungalow, Mental Hospital area. Apart from this, in Kopri Naupada Ward Committee area, Deputy Commissioners visited and took action to evacuate C1 and C2 dangerous and hazardous buildings.

All measures have been taken to drain out the water accumulated in the areas of Padwalnagar, Kisannagar, Bhatwadi Janta Slum, Srinagar under Wagle Ward Committee area in Thane city and staff of the Municipal Corporation's emergency department have been deployed at the spot.

Apart from this, due to heavy rains, the road was washed away in Khadi Machine Road and Bhimnagar in Mumbra area. After this, the emergency department staff controlled the situation and the road was temporarily closed for traffic at that place. Immediate action is being taken to remove the trees fallen due to rain at various places in the city.
