Railway Concession for Senior Citizens : The issue of concession given by the government to senior citizens was again discussed in the Lok Sabha today. During the Question Hour today, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav was asked whether the government would resume the concessional service for senior citizens. He did not give a clear answer to this question then. However, he said that the government is giving an average subsidy of 46 per cent on the fare of each person traveling in the railways.
More than 56 crore rupees subsidy was given to railway passengers
During the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, MP Deepak Dev Adhikari asked the Railway Minister whether the government has made any plans to resume rail fare subsidy to senior citizens during the Covid pandemic. In response, Vaishnav said, 'Indian Railways has given a subsidy of Rs 56,993 crore on tickets to railway passengers in the financial year 2022-23. Railways is giving an average subsidy or concession of 46 per cent to every passenger. This subsidy is applicable to all people traveling in railways.

He said that apart from the subsidy of Rs 56,993 crore given to passengers on rail travel, the railways also provides concession in fares on rail travel to four categories of handicapped, 11 categories of patients and eight categories of students. The aim of Indian Railways is to provide affordable services to all sections of the society.
