BJP vs Mamata on Budget 2024-25: After the crushing defeat in all four seats in the recent West Bengal by-elections, Bengal BJP leaders have become furious against the Mamata government. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari had given a statement at that time that till now BJP used to say 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' but now we will not say so. Now we will say 'Jo Hamare Saath, Hum Unke Saath'. The opposition party has opened a front against the government by announcing an indirect economic package to NDA allies JDU and TDP in the Union Budget. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also alleged that West Bengal has been discriminated against.
Reacting to Mamata Banerjee's statement, senior BJP leader and MLA Agnimitra Paul said that the central government has done the right thing by not announcing any financial package for the state. Paul said, “Why should the Center give an economic package to Bengal? To help TMC leaders withdraw money? The TMC government is using central funds but is not giving any certificate of use. Is this constitutional? The TMC government is steeped in corruption.”
Mamata protested:
The West Bengal Chief Minister opposed the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Lok Sabha yesterday. Mamata Banerjee said that Bengal has been completely deprived and the interests of poor people have not been considered in the Union Budget. She called the Union Budget politically biased and anti-people.
Senior Trinamool leader Kalyan Banerjee termed the budget as a “seat saving budget” and alleged, “The purpose of this budget is to save (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi's seat.” Kalyan Banerjee told reporters outside Parliament that this is not India's budget but the NDA's budget. Now that the BJP has won the assembly elections in Odisha, there is nothing for this state either. There is nothing for Bengal either.
Abhishek Banerjee also attacked the government on the budget issue and said that did the selection of 12 BJP MPs from Bengal bring any positive result? No. The net result is zero. Bengal is continuously oppressed and deprived.
He quipped referring to the comment of Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari that “Whoever is with us, we are with him, Suvendu Adhikari's words have been proved true today.”
