Kolkata, 24 July (HS). Senior BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari has been accused of assault in the West Bengal Assembly. BJP MLAs walked out under the leadership of Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari demanding a discussion on women harassment in the Assembly. During this, a heated debate took place between Purbasthali Trinamool MLA Tapan Chatterjee and Shubhendu Adhikari.
Shubhendu alleged that he was physically harassed during the debate. Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari said that I have been harassed in the assembly. If any BJP MLA is attacked, then the responsibility lies with the speaker.
Shubhendu also sent a letter to the speaker of the assembly regarding the incident, in which he alleged that the MLA from Purvasthali physically harassed him and used abusive language.
According to sources, Shubhendu had attacked the MLA of Purvasthali by visiting his constituency. Shubhendu had questioned the MLA's daughter's government job by referring to her secondary examination marks. On this, Tapan Chatterjee questioned Shubhendu in the corridor of the Assembly on Wednesday, which started a debate.
Tapan Chatterjee said that he only wanted to know why Shubhendu made such statements. He has lodged a complaint with the police station and the speaker of the assembly. He rejected the allegations of physical assault and said that there were other people there. Is there any photo which shows that I hit him? I said that he is lying. He is a liar.
