Tripura Elections 2024 : The ruling party BJP in Tripura has won the three-tier panchayat elections unopposed. On Tuesday, the election officer said that BJP candidates have won unopposed on 71 percent of the seats in the state. There are a total of 6889 panchayat seats in this state, which include Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad. Out of these, BJP has won unopposed on a total of 4805 seats. Voting is to be held on 8 August.
Election Commission secretary gave information
Asit Kumar Das, Secretary of the State Election Commission in Tripura, said that the BJP won 4,550 out of a total of 6,370 Gram Panchayat seats unopposed. Due to which voting will not take place on 71 percent of the seats. Now, out of the 1,819 Gram Panchayat seats on which elections will be held, the BJP has fielded 1,809 candidates, while the CPI (M) has fielded candidates on 1,222 seats and the Congress on 731 seats. BJP's ally Tipra Motha has fielded candidates on 138 seats.
Out of 423 Panchayat Samiti seats, BJP won 235 seats
Asit Kumar said that now there will be no election on one Maheshkala Panchayat seat in West Tripura district. The BJP candidate on this seat has died. Das said, BJP has won 235 out of 423 seats of Panchayat Samitis unopposed, which is 55 percent of the total seats. Now voting will be held on 188 seats. While BJP has won 20 out of 116 seats of Zilla Parishad unopposed, which is about 17 percent of the total seats. It is worth noting that the last date for withdrawal of nomination was 22 July while voting is to be held on 8 August. Counting of votes will be done on 12 August. In the last election, BJP won 96 percent of the seats of the three-tier Panchayat system unopposed.
