Ashish Nehra gives advice to Virat Kohli: Gautam Gambhir is going to start his tenure as the head coach of the Indian team with the Sri Lanka tour. A three-match T20 series will be played between India and Sri Lanka from July 27 and a three-match ODI series from August 2. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have retired from T20 international cricket, will be seen playing in this ODI series. It was expected that after winning the T20 World Cup, captain Rohit and Virat would take a long break from the tournament but later both changed their mind. Former India fast bowler Ashish Nehra has given important advice to Rohit and Virat before the start of the Sri Lanka series.
It would be better if Rohit and Kohli join Gambhir soon.
Talking to the media, Nehra said, 'After winning the T20 World Cup recently, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were not expected to play, but now they are playing the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Gautam Gambhir is the new coach of the team. The sooner both of them meet seriously in the dressing room, the better it will be, even if you know each other for years. It often happens that after playing the World Cup, you want to give a chance to young players in the series. Sometimes a little khichdi is also cooked in it. India has many players available for white ball cricket. The more time the young players spend with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the better it will be for them.'
As we grow older, it will be challenging to keep up with the young batsmen
Gambhir had recently said that if 37-year-old Rohit and 35-year-old Kohli remain fit, they can play for India in the 2027 World Cup. Commenting on this, Nehra said, “It is a good idea, but due to the aging of both the players, it will be a challenge to maintain themselves against the young batsmen.” Both of them depend on how passionate and fanatic they will be. But in the case of Rohit and Virat, this is not a problem. This is how they managed to reach this point in their career. But as the age increases, players like Shubman Gill, Sai Sudarshan can also be seen performing well.
Nehra further said that no cricketer wants to retire. But with increasing age he accepts the limitations of his body. I would like to remain 18 years old all my life. I never want to retire. If you ask Gautam Gambhir if your body is fit, would you still want to play? His answer is yes, I am ready. I will play in place of a player like Sai Sudarshan. But in reality you grow old. Four years is a very long time. The idea of both of them playing the next World Cup is very good. If this can be done then nothing can be better than this.
