Mumbai: According to IPL, now Maharashtra's famous festival Dahi-Handi will also have a premier league. This year, rich franchises are buying Govinda's teams because in IPL, every player is bid upon. However, the difference will be that the entire team with the best score will be selected, not individual members.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday announced the Pro Govinda League 2024. 32 Govinda teams from across the state will participate in this competition in Thane on 27-28 July. Out of these, 16 teams will be finalized, which will participate in the competition to be held on 18 August at the Dome SVP Stadium in Worli.
There are plans to turn Dahi-Handi into a recognised brand across the country like the Pro Kabaddi League.
So far 12 franchises have acquired the team. The Govinda Group will wear the jersey of the respective team and will be known by a new name. For example, Thane Tigers or Mumbai United etc. Every Govinda Group will also get a fee of lakhs of rupees. The prize money is also substantial. The prize money will give the Govinda teams the opportunity to do various activities throughout the year.
