Raipur, 22 July (HS). 20 boys and 20 girls have been selected for the residential archery academy run by the Sports and Youth Welfare Department in Raipur. The state level selection trial was held on 25 and 26 June at Swami Vivekananda Stadium and Sports Directorate Campus Archery Arena in Raipur.
On the instructions of Sports Director Tanuja Salam, the selection trials were conducted in a systematic manner by the Nodal Officer of the selection trials, Chetan Kumar Shrivas, Administrator, Sports Academy, Raipur. The selection committee included trainers of Sports Authority of India Training Centre, Raipur and Sports and Youth Welfare Department (NIS). The selectors conducted motor ability test, medical test, sports skill test and mental ability test related to the fitness of the players. Only those players who fulfilled the prescribed standards were selected in the age group of 13 to 17 years as per merit on the basis of performance.
Players from across the state participated in the selection trials, in which 05 girls and 09 boys from Raipur district, 07 girls from Surguja, 02 boys and 04 girls from Dhamtari, 05 girls and 02 boys from Mahasamund, 03 boys from Narayanpur, 01 boy from Bilaspur, 01 boy from Kondagaon and 01 girl from Gariaband district have been selected. These selected players will be given admission in the academy within 10 days. If any of the selected players is unable to take admission, then action will be taken to give admission on the basis of merit from the waiting list.
Under the Sports Academy Operating Rules-2014, players taking admission in the sports academy will be provided facilities like free accommodation, food, educational facilities, clothing, playing kit, accident insurance and participation in competitions etc. Players of the residential sports academy will be prepared to play at the international level. For this, NIS trainers have been recruited by the state government. From time to time, international level archery players and trainers will be invited to the sports academy and special training will also be organized.
