Gwalior, 22 July (HS). The month of Sawan has started from Monday and will continue till 19 August. On the first day of Sawan month, on Monday, all the Shivalayas of the city echoed with the mantra 'Om Namah Shivaya'. The devotees started arriving at the temples from Monday night and continued throughout the day. On this occasion, the temples were decorated with attractive electricity which was a sight to behold.
Huge crowds of devotees were seen at the major temples of the city including Shri Achleshwar Mahadev Temple, Koteshwar Temple, Gupteshwar Temple, Dhumeshwar Temple, Markandeshwar, Hazareshwar etc. Devotees stood in long queues to have darshan of the Lord. Along with this, devotees reached the temples and anointed Lord Shiva with milk, curd, honey and water. After this, Belpatra and flowers were also offered on the Pindi. Many people kept fast and worshipped Lord Bholenath at home. Huge crowds of devotees were seen at the temples even in the evening.
There was tight police security around temples: On the first Monday of Sawan, police security was tight at all the Shiv temples in the city. Barricades etc. were put up so that vehicles do not go near the temple. Vehicles were parked away from the temple.
Prasad, flowers and Belpatra were sold in abundance: To please Lord Bholenath, devotees offered delicious Prasad to the Lord. Along with this, Belpatra and flowers were also offered in abundance, which resulted in a lot of sales for the shopkeepers. Many devotees also distributed food, fruits etc. to the needy sitting outside the temple.
