During the budget session in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said that it is not possible to give special state status to Bihar.
Despite repeated demands, JDU refused
The minister said that Bihar does not fulfill the conditions for special state status. It is worth noting that for the last several years, there has been a demand to give special state status to Bihar. Recently, in an all-party meeting in Delhi, JDU Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Jha had demanded special state status for Bihar. It is worth noting that Nitish Kumar has also been continuously making this demand.

Demand from other states too
It is noteworthy that according to Article 275 of the Indian Constitution, there is a provision for a state to be a special category state. At present, there are a total of 29 states and 7 union territories in the country, out of which 11 have got the status of special states but there are still five states including Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha which are demanding the status of special states.
