New Delhi, July 20 (HS). The 2nd Hockey India Junior Men and Women West Zone Championship 2024 will be held from 21st to 28th July in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh.
The participating teams have been divided into two pools in the women's category. Pool A comprises Hockey Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh Hockey and Hockey Gujarat. Pool B comprises Hockey Maharashtra, Hockey Rajasthan, Goa Hockey and Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu Hockey. The format of the competition will be a round-robin in each pool, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the semi-finals.
In the men's category, six teams Hockey Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh Hockey, Hockey Gujarat, Hockey Maharashtra, Hockey Rajasthan and Goa Hockey are in the same pool. The top two teams from the round-robin will advance to the final, while the third and fourth-placed teams will compete for the third place in the knockout match.
Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey said, “We are looking forward to the 2nd Hockey India Junior Men and Women West Zone Championships which will bring together the promising young talents of the region.”
He said, “This championship is all about learning and developing as players. It provides a good platform for young players to showcase their abilities and gain valuable experience.”
Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh said, “Our aim is to groom the junior players and give them the best possible performance. Such competitions help boost their confidence and prepare them for higher levels of the game.”
On the first day of the competition, in the women's category, Hockey Madhya Pradesh will compete with Goa Hockey, while Hockey Rajasthan will compete with Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu Hockey. In the men's category, Hockey Madhya Pradesh will compete with Goa Hockey, Hockey Rajasthan will compete with Hockey Gujarat and Hockey Maharashtra will compete with Chhattisgarh Hockey.
