Kaithal, July 20 (HS). The court of Session Judge Ritu YK Bahl, while announcing the punishment in a snatching case, has sentenced two culprits to five years of imprisonment and a fine of ten thousand rupees each. If the fine is not paid, they will have to undergo an additional sentence of two months each.
Advocate Gyan Chand Gupta had registered case number 104 under section 379A and 34 of IPC on 24 April 2023 at Cheeka police station. The case was argued on behalf of the state by Deputy District Attorney Jasbir Dhanda. Citing the case file, Jasbir Dhanda said that on 23 April 2023, at around 12:30 pm, Advocate Gyan Chand Gupta was returning home from his office. When he reached near the divider towards Udham Singh Chowk Cheeka by bus, two unknown youths came from behind on a motorcycle and started saying that Gurvinder Sir had called you, why did you not stop. On this, the lawyer asked who is Gurvinder Sir, then he said that some woman's jewelry has been lost and he is looking for it. The lawyer said that I do not know anything.
After this, the miscreants saw the ring in the lawyer's hand and forcefully snatched the ring from his finger and fled towards Kaithal on a bike. Later, both the miscreants were identified as Baljeet and Bharat Bhushan, residents of Samana district Patiala and they were arrested. The police prepared the challan and handed it over to the court. A total of nine witnesses were presented in the case. After listening to both the parties carefully, the court found Baljeet and Bharat Bhushan guilty of snatching in the light of witnesses and evidence and in its 18-page judgment sentenced both of them to five years of imprisonment and a fine of ten thousand rupees each.
