Higher toll than other national highways
According to media reports, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway connecting the two big cities is the most expensive road. It has a higher toll tax than other national highways, due to which it is called the most expensive expressway in India. A four-wheeler on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway charges a toll of Rs 320 for a one-way trip between the two cities.
According to reports, the toll per kilometre is Rs 3.40, which is Rs 1 more than the average toll tax of other expressways in the country. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway, built by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, is the first access-controlled road in the country.
Travel time between the two cities reduced from 3 hours to just 1 hour
The expressway has reduced travel time between the two cities from 3 hours to just 1 hour. Tolls increase by 6% annually, but are revised at a rate of 18% every three years.
According to the information, the toll tax was last revised in April 2023. In which the toll was increased from Rs. 270 to Rs. 320 and for vehicles like mini bus and tempo, the current toll was Rs. 420 instead of Rs. 495. The toll of double axle truck is Rs. 585 which has been increased to Rs. 685. Apart from this, the toll tax for buses was Rs 797, which has been increased to Rs 940.
