For the first time in the history of Olympics, the opening ceremony of the Olympics will not be held in a stadium but in a river. The opening ceremony of Paris Olympics 2024 will be held in the Seine River on 26 July and more than 10 thousand athletes from 206 countries will participate in this mega event. There will be 329 events in 32 sports. During the opening ceremony, the players will parade by boat. For this, 90 to 100 boats will be used.
There will be a six kilometer long parade
Specially designed boats will carry the athletes across the Pont d'Austerlitz bridge. The event will begin at around 11:00 pm IST. More than 1.5 billion sports fans around the world will watch the live telecast. During the parade, the boats will cross 18 bridges on the Seine river and the parade will end at the Pont d'Alene, a short distance from the Eiffel Tower. Benches have been placed on both sides of the river to watch the opening ceremony and around three lakh supporters are expected to attend the opening ceremony.
Special arrangements for the families of athletes too
Athletes from around the world are coming to the Olympics with their families. Family members will have to stay outside the sports village, but on non-event days athletes can have lunch or dinner together at the 600-seat restaurant set up on the Ile Saint Denis.
Champions Park with a capacity of 13,000
The stadium has been temporarily prepared to follow the official protocol during the opening ceremony. The 13,000-capacity stadium is near the Eiffel Tower and is named Champions Park. French President Emmanuel Macron will declare the Games open after the opening ceremony concludes.
3000 artists will perform in the festival
A total of more than three thousand artists will participate in both the opening and closing ceremonies. The performances will also be different as the opening ceremony will be held outside the stadium and above the river. Dance choreography head Mode Le Playdec has indicated that all the boats that will be in the parade will create special platforms on the bridges and perform various programs for the athletes.
Electric shuttle buses and bikes will be used
Electric shuttle buses and bikes will be used to transport the athletes to their event venues in the Games Village. Special facilities have also been created for Paralympic athletes. Athletes will be able to train in specially designed gymnasiums and training centers. All these facilities are located 20 minutes away from the venue.
The holiday show will thrill fans
After the athletes' parade, a holiday show has been organized that will showcase everything from the history of the Olympics to the culture of France. Apart from this, the world will be made aware of various topics including global warming through the holiday show. A glimpse of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will also be shown at the end of the holiday show.
40 thousand dishes will be prepared every day
A huge restaurant with 3500 seats has been prepared in the Olympic Village and about 40 thousand dishes are prepared every day. The food of all the athletes and staff will be taken care of constantly. Local French, Mediterranean, Asian and Afro-Caribbean dishes will be prepared continuously. 'Grab and Go' i.e. self-service has been arranged so that the athletes do not waste their time. Vegetable shawarma, zaatar spicy sweet potato, hummus, beetroot falafel and grilled eggplant with smoked paprika will be the center of attraction.
Inclusion of Dal-Roti and Ber-Gobi in the food menu of Indian athletes
Before some Olympics, Indian athletes had to face many difficulties regarding their food but now the organizers provide food to the athletes of each country according to their country. Indian athletes will also get delicious food like home. The Indian cuisine food menu includes dishes like dal-roti, steam rice, aloo-gobi and mildly spicy chicken curry. South Asian broth will also be served. During the meeting of the Indian Olympic Association, the food list was handed over to the organizers of the Paris Games.
Food trucks will be open 24 hours a day in the sports village
The 3200-seat dining hall designed for the athletes will serve traditional cuisine from around the world. The Games Village will have 24-hour food trucks on duty and players will be able to buy a variety of dishes from them as well. The menu given to the chef de mission of the restaurant lists a long list of the athletes' diet.
Indian athletes have the highest number of athletes in 29 athletics events
India will send its largest contingent in athletics at the Paris Olympics. 29 athletes will compete for medals in these sports, including 11 women and 18 men. 21 players will participate in shooting and 19 in hockey at the Paris Games. Eight players are participating in table tennis and seven in badminton, including two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu. Six players are also participating in wrestling, six in archery and six in boxing. India sent a 119-member contingent to the Tokyo Olympics 2020 in which India won seven medals, including Neeraj Chopra's gold medal in javelin throw, which was India's best performance in Olympic history.
