As the deadline for filing income tax returns (ITR) for the financial year 2024-25 approaches, taxpayers are facing technical glitches in the e-filing portal developed by Infosys.
Chartered Accountants (CAs) have also expressed a lot of disappointment over the irregularities during the ITR filing process. The last date for filing ITR is 31 July 2024. Due to the existing problems, tax professionals and individual taxpayers have demanded the government to extend the last date for filing ITR from 31 July to 31 August.
Lack of uniformity of pre-filed data related to salary and interest income, facing technical glitches while filing returns, besides facing problems in obtaining necessary forms like 26AS, Annual Information Statement (AIS) and Tax Information Summary (TIS). About 2.7 crore ITRs were filed till 14 July 2024. Which is 13 percent more than the returns filed in the same period last year. On July 13, the number of ITR filers crossed 13 lakh on a daily basis. Recently, many CAS had expressed their displeasure over the e-filing portal on social media. Many people tagged Infosys co-founder Narayan Murthy and asked him to deploy an Infosys team to work at least one hour every week to keep the portal running properly.

Problems like frequent buffering in the portal at the time of e-filing, mismatch of pre-filed data related to salary and interest income, non-receipt of OTP etc. are being faced.

The e-filing portal, developed by Infosys, provides single window access to income tax related services to taxpayers and other stakeholders from 2021.
