Goa's beaches are closed for swimming during the monsoon. The lifeguarding agency urges people to avoid swimming due to rough sea waves, high tides and other conditions. Also, strong winds make going into the sea dangerous.
High tide warning is currently in effect on the western coast from Palghar in Maharashtra to Udupi in Karnataka. Waves can rise up to a height of 44.3 metres in the sea. Usually, heavy rains, turbulent seas, sudden changes in the weather during the monsoon from June to September also increase the risk.
