Kolkata, July 19 (HS) Police have taken swift action after the incident of attack on police during a protest against power cut in Enayatpur of Manikchak police station area of Malda. On Friday, District Superintendent of Police Pradeep Yadav told Hindustan News that 25 people involved in the incident have been arrested. On Thursday, 26 people were detained, out of which five were released after verification through local sources, video and CCTV footage. A total of 21 people remained in custody.
On this basis, a list of other people involved has also been prepared and raids are continuing. Four more people were arrested in the overnight raids. All 25 persons have been produced in court.
He said that necessary arrangements have been made in Manikchak police station area today and the situation in the area is normal. The condition of all the people injured in the incident is stable and they are undergoing treatment.
It is noteworthy that on Thursday in Malda, the police who came to remove hundreds of people who had come out on the streets against power cuts clashed with the people. During this, the police also opened fire, in which two people were seriously injured. It is claimed that many policemen have also been injured. Superintendent of Police Pradeep Yadav has said that the policemen opened fire in self-defense.
