Voting time in Shiromani Committee likely to be extended till April, voting is not even half as compared to last time

Chandigarh: There is a possibility that the voting time of the Sromani Gurdwara Management Committee, which is called the mini parliament of the Sikhs, may increase once again. It is known that compared to last time, not even half the votes could be cast. That is why Chief Election Commission Gurdwara Election Justice SS Saro has indicated to extend the voting period by two months. However, the Election Commission has not yet issued any letter in this regard because the last date of voting is February 29.

According to the information, in the year 2011, Shiromani Committee had about 51 lakh votes. Whereas till now information about 23.28 lakh votes has been received. It has been learned that more than two lakh votes were cast in Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur districts, while around 1.58 lakh votes were cast in Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's district Sangrur. Pathankot and Mohali have the least votes.

Today Saromani Akali Dal President and MP Simranjit Singh Mann, Justice S.S. Saro (Retd) Chief Election Commissioner has issued a memorandum regarding extending the time for voting for Gurdwara elections by two months and directing the government machinery and employees to conduct door-to-door voting. On behalf of Mann, the party's state president Gopal Singh Sidhu and vice president Charanjit Singh have given this letter to the Gurdwara Election Commission. It has been said in the letter that in the districts where earlier more than three lakh votes were cast, now only about 70 to 80 thousand votes were cast. The delegation asked teachers and BLOs to vote. Instructions should be issued for making votes for Gurudwara like Anganwadi workers, Patwaris, Kanungo, Tehsildars make votes for general elections. Akali leader Gopal Singh said that the Chief Election Commission has assured to extend the time for vote counting till April.

Instructions to cast vote to Puran Gursikh this time

On the other hand, there is discussion in Sikh circles that the main reason for less votes this time is the instructions given by Puran Gursikhs to cast their votes. It is said that to cast vote on behalf of Shiromani Committee, it is mandatory to put the voter's recent photograph and photocopy of Aadhar card on the form. It has also been revealed that women are getting more votes than men. Most of the youth are degenerate Sikhs, due to which there is great difficulty in making votes.
