Chandigarh: The Punjab government has decided to open 12 more public sand mines in different districts. Under the fourth and fifth phase, Punjab Mines and Geology Minister Chetan Singh Joramajra will dedicate to the people 12 new public sand mines in five districts of Firozpur, SBS Nagar, Amritsar, Moga and Jalandhar on February 28, a government spokesperson said. At present a total of 60 public wells are running in different districts. So far, 15.90 lakh metric tonnes of sand has been made available to the common people at the rate of Rs 5.50 per cubic feet, which shows the great success of this initiative.
With the opening of new public sand mines identified by the Mines and Geology Department, the total number of these mines will increase to 72, which will provide more benefits to the common people. The spokesperson said that with the help of these public sand mines, common people can dig sand and sell it on a large scale, which will increase the supply of sand in the market and will also reduce the rates of sand in the market.
