Ranchi, July 18 (HS). During the hearing of a public interest petition, the Jharkhand High Court has asked the Principal Health Secretary of Jharkhand what action is being taken against the nursing homes and hospitals being opened without license in Jharkhand.
On Thursday, a division bench headed by Chief Justice B Sarangi of the High Court also asked the Health Secretary, who was virtually present in the court, to provide information about whether nursing homes and hospitals have fire fighting facilities, bio-medical waste disposal system etc. The High Court has sought a detailed reply from the Health Secretary on both these points.
The division bench of the High Court verbally asked the Health Secretary that how are nursing homes and hospitals operating without registration in many districts of Jharkhand including the capital Ranchi? On this, the Health Secretary told the court that under the Clinical Establishment Act, first a provisional license is obtained to open a hospital and nursing home, later they are given a permanent license but it takes a long time to give a permanent license to nursing homes and hospitals. Due to this, hospitals continue to operate without registration. On this, the court told him that you believe that the government is at fault in this, why don't you do an inspection, so that nursing homes and hospitals operating illegally can be stopped. The court directed the Health Secretary to strictly follow the law regarding the license of hospitals.
