Tezpur Airport in Assam has been closed from 1 October 2024 to 31 March 2026. Flight services will remain closed for the next one and a half years from October. On the instructions of the Airport Authority, the movement of passenger planes has been stopped here for 18 months. Actually, the airport will remain closed for one and a half years due to maintenance work. The airport will remain closed due to improving facilities at the terminal and reconstruction of the runway.
For how long will Tezpur airport remain closed?
Flight services at Assam's Tezpur airport will be closed for one and a half years from October for maintenance work. Tezpur airport director G Shiv Kumar said passenger flights will be closed from October 1, 2024 to March 31, 2026. He said this is being done for runway reconstruction and other projects aimed at improving facilities at the terminal.
Tezpur Airport is adjacent to the Indian Air Force's 'Tezpur Base' and its runway is used for both commercial and fighter aircraft. Tezpur Air Force Base had already informed the Tezpur Salonibari Passenger Airport Authority about the maintenance work due to which passenger flight services will be temporarily suspended.
Plan to start helicopter service
Kumar said that during this time the authority is considering providing helicopter service from Tezpur to Guwahati, but it is yet to be finalised. Currently, SpiceJet flight with 90 seats operates daily direct from Tezpur to Kolkata. Apart from this, two airlines operate daily flights to Kolkata via Guwahati, Pasighat and Tezpur.
