Krishnakumar, general secretary of the Thrissur Railway Passengers Association (TRPA), hoped that the railways would start the service on the Ernakulam-Bengaluru route as soon as possible, reports The Hindu. He said that the railways should introduce the sleeper version as well as the traditional Vande Bharat in view of the ever-increasing demand in the region.
Railway sources cited lack of platforms at railway stations in Bengaluru by South Western Railway among other reasons for the delay in starting the service on the Ernakulam-Bengaluru route. There are also apprehensions that short-distance trains may be discontinued due to a new Vande Bharat daily train on the route. It is worth noting that the railways had promised as early as April 2023 that it would run Vande Bharat Express on the Ernakulam-Bengaluru route by late 2023 or early 2024, as there is a huge demand in this corridor from IT professionals working in Bengaluru and other Keralites.
Passengers dependent on buses are demanding Vande Bharat
According to a report in The Hindu, due to lack of sufficient trains in this corridor, passengers are dependent on interstate luxury buses, which is increasing traffic jams and accidents on the highway. People want Vande Bharat to be started in the Ernakulam-Bengaluru corridor as soon as possible so that people can get rid of the hassle of expensive flights and buses. According to railway sources, the Railway Board has not yet confirmed when the Vande Bharat Express will be run on the Ernakulam-Bengaluru route. But it is expected that the railways will soon consider the huge demand of the people.
