The Government of India in its advisory has warned Indian citizens to stay where they are. Do not go anywhere unnecessarily. Along with this, the Government of India also announced an emergency helpline number for 24 hours. The advice specifically asks Indian citizens and students to avoid any kind of travel and stay where they are as far as possible. In case of any emergency, they can contact the High Commission and Assistant High Commission.

Why is there violence in Bangladesh?

Violence has erupted in India's neighboring country Bangladesh. Two days ago, at least 6 people were killed in a demonstration demanding reform in the reservation system. Keeping this in mind, the authorities requested to close all universities on Wednesday (July 17). Some universities immediately followed this, although some have not yet decided on this.

There was a clash between people and police

The University Grants Commission has asked all public and private universities to suspend teaching and vacate hostels until further notice for the safety of students. Universities in the country function autonomously. At least six people, including three students, were killed and over 100 injured on Tuesday (July 16) in clashes between protesters and police in major cities of Bangladesh demanding reform in the reservation system in government jobs.
