The Deputy Commissioner of Police said that charges have been registered under Sections 376D (gang rape), 323 (causing hurt with intent) and 328 (causing hurt by intoxicating substance) of the IPC and relevant sections of the POCSO Act. The age of the victim is said to be around 16 years.

Police said that one of the five accused was friends with Himanshu, who pretended to go shopping with her on the evening of May 3. Then he and his friends took her to a garage to eat biryani.
