Former Sri Lankan cricket team captain shot dead before India tour

A major incident has come to light before the Indian team's tour of Sri Lanka. Where former Sri Lankan cricketer Dhammika Niroshan was shot dead at his home in Ambalangoda. This heartbreaking incident has put the cricket world and Sri Lanka in mourning. In this regard, the local police have confirmed that an unknown attacker entered the house and shot him, when he was with his wife and two children. The reason why the attacker shot Niroshan is not yet clear and the attacker is absconding. The police are trying to catch the accused and the investigation of the case is going on. Initial investigation has revealed that the accused had brought a 12 bore gun.

Former Sri Lankan Cricket Captain

Let us tell you that 41-year-old Niroshan led Sri Lanka at the Under-19 level. He played his first match against Singapore in 2000. He played Under-19 Test and ODI cricket for two years. He also captained the team on 10 occasions. Niroshan was a left-arm fast bowler and right-handed batsman. In the 2002 Under-10 World Cup, Niroshan took 7 wickets in 5 innings at an average of 19.28. Niroshan was a good bowler during his career.

Niroshan played a total of 12 first-class matches and 8 List A matches for Galle Cricket Club between 2001 and 2004. In first-class, he scored 269 runs with a best score of 47 and also took 19 wickets. Here in List-A, he scored a total of 48 runs with a best score of 27 and also took 5 wickets. He has also played for Chilla Marian Cricket Club, Galle Cricket Club etc. However, he was never a part of the senior team.
