Mumbai: A nine-year-old girl living with her family in Shivajinagar area of Mankhurd was seriously injured when her mother scolded her for constantly wetting the bed in her sleep. The girl's mother hit her on the back, arms and private parts. After this incident, the girl's neighbors reported the matter to the helpline of the police control room, the police took further action by registering a crime against the woman under various sections.
According to the complaint lodged in this regard, the incident took place on July 14 in Baiganwadi area of Mankhurd-Shivajinagar division. Nine-year-old Mehrunnisa lives with her mother and accused in the case Kohinoor Khatoon and her stepfather along with her other siblings. Since Mehrunnisa had no control over her urine, it would wet the bed. When she woke up on July 14, the bed was still wet. This made her mother Kohinoor Khatoon very angry and in anger she heated a spoon and hit Mehrunnisa on her back, arms and finally on her private part. The child started groaning in pain and the neighbours ran to her screaming.
Angered by this, the accused asked the neighbours not to interfere as it was their personal matter. He also abused the neighbours and drove them away. The neighbours left, but they called the Mumbai Police helpline and complained about the matter and demanded immediate action. Upon receiving information about the incident, a team of Shivajinagar police reached the spot and immediately admitted Mehrunnisa, who was writhing in pain, to a nearby hospital for further treatment. After the incident, the police called the woman along with the child and some of her neighbours to the police station for further interrogation and charged her under sections 352, 118(1), 115(2) and section 75 of the Indian Penal Code. The offence was registered under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. The police did not make any arrest in the case. According to further information provided by the police, the accused woman lives with her husband and four children in Baiganwadi area. She has two children from her first husband and two from her second husband. It also came to light that she often beat her children for small reasons.
