Kerala Lift News: Cases of people getting stuck in lifts keep coming up almost every day. Sometimes due to power failure and sometimes due to technical faults, people keep getting stuck in and out of lifts.

In most cases, this happens for just a few minutes. But a shocking incident has come to light in a hospital in Kerala, where a patient was stuck in a lift for 42 hours. After being stuck in the lift for two days, the patient Ravichandran Nair (59) came out and told everyone about his ordeal.

In an information given to an English newspaper, Ravichandran said, 'It was like a dream to be stuck inside the lift for 42 hours. After the lift stopped, the first thing I did was press the alarm button, but there was no response. There was also no intercom to contact the lift operator. So I used the phone to call various helpline numbers written inside the lift. But there was no response. Meanwhile, the phone slipped from my hand and stopped working.'

After getting stuck in the lift, Ravichandran further said, 'After the phone broke, I sat in a corner and waited for someone to come. Suddenly I remembered that the next day was Sunday. So now I might be stuck here for the next day. When I had to pee, I would pee in the corner of the lift. During these 42 hours, I cried many times. I was also not able to sleep. When I felt thirsty or hungry, I would lick my lips. Keep pressing the alarm bell. There was no fan or light in the lift chamber, yet some air kept coming in, which provided a continuous supply of oxygen.'

Ravichandran further said, 'My morale was breaking, to keep it up I recited poems written and published by my wife. I did not reach home on Saturday but the family, Sreelekha and the two children did not notice. They thought I was assigned another duty due to my irregular work, but when I did not return even on Sunday they tried to contact me on the phone. However, their worry increased when they were unable to contact me on the phone.

Ravichandran said that after talking to my family members, it was found that I was not even in my office. After this, they reached the police station and registered a case. It was found that I was missing since Saturday afternoon. By Sunday afternoon, they had lodged a missing person report at the local police station. The family members also started looking for him. He was in shock. They searched the medical college campus, but they did not find me trapped in the lift. On Monday morning, the lift operator came on duty and rescued me.

According to an official, lift operators should bring down such lifts, open the doors and check the chamber. But this did not happen on Saturday. After the rescue, Ravindran was admitted to the Medical College Hospital. The state health department has ordered an inquiry into the incident and suspended three people, including the lift operator. According to a state health department official, the problem in the lift was not reported to the electrical wing and there was no sign of fault in the lift when Ravindran boarded it.
