Jammu, July 16 (HS). On the third day of his visit to Bandipora district, senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Ali Khatana conducted a surprise inspection of Gurez Hospital and held a meeting with senior officials. The MP also addressed a public meeting at the Dak Bungalow along with former MLA and senior BJP leader Fakir Mohammad Khan, ST Morcha President Arshad Khan and other party leaders.
During his surprise visit to the hospital, Khatana interacted with the patients and staff and asked the medical staff to provide the best possible healthcare facilities to the local population. Addressing the gathering at the Dak Bungalow, Khatana said the proposed tunnel between Gurez and Bandipora is the top priority of the Modi government. The project aims to provide all-weather road connectivity to the locals as Gurez remains cut off from the rest of the world for six months due to heavy snowfall.
In a meeting with local officials, the MP directed them to disseminate information about centrally sponsored schemes in local languages and hold regular awareness camps. The initiative is aimed at ensuring that the public can avail full benefits of various welfare and developmental schemes. Former MLA and BJP leader Faqir Mohammad Khan drew attention to the alleged embezzlement in the Gramin Bank and urged that the hard-earned money of the people be returned respectfully. Khan also demanded an audit of all centrally sponsored schemes in the area which amounts to theft of public money. Additionally, he requested to increase the rice quota given by the CAPD from 5 to 10 kg per person. The local leaders also demanded the launch of new projects in the area and a special recruitment drive to address unemployment concerns.
