Mumbai: In just two days, about 1.5 lakh million liters of new water arrived in the seven reservoirs and catchment areas that supply water to Mumbai city. That is, 37 days of additional water has been stored so far, 35.11 percent of the water storage capacity of the reservoirs has been stored, so far about 127 days or four months of water has been stored. But the current 10 percent water cut will remain as it is.

Of the seven reservoirs that supply water to Mumbai city, today Upper Vaitarna had 1,28,99 million litres, Modak Sagar 71,205 million litres, Tansa 1,02,611 million litres, Middle Vaitarna 61,066 million litres, Bhatsa 238,959 million litres, Vihar reservoir 14955 million litres, Tulsi 508108 million litres with a total of 35.11 per cent water stored in the reservoirs against their water storage capacity, said the water supply department of the municipality.

According to the data provided by the municipality, a total of 361826 million liters of water had been stored in the reservoirs till 8 am on Saturday, July 13. That is, there was 25 percent water. But in two days, i.e. till 8 am on Monday, 508108 million liters were stored in the reservoir and in two days, 1,46,282 million liters, i.e. new water was received in 37 days. That is, 35.11 percent water has been stored in the reservoirs. Thus, the water supply department of the municipality said that a total of four months, i.e. 127 days of water has been stored in the reservoirs.

A hydraulic engineer of the municipality said the 10 per cent water cut imposed on Mumbugara would not be withdrawn now as a decision to lift the water cut could be taken only after more than 50 per cent water is stored in the reservoirs.

The municipality supplies 3850 million litres of water to Mumbaikars every day. But due to a 10 per cent water shortage, 3475 million litres of water is being distributed every day, he said.

Three out of the seven reservoirs are one to two metres above the overflow level

Of the reservoirs that supply water to Mumbai city, the Tansa, Vihar and Tulsi reservoirs are one to one and a half metres above the overflow level.

The flood level of Tulsi reservoir is 139.19 metres. In contrast, today the reservoir is 137.92 metres. So it is only half a metre away from the flood level.

While the overflow level of Tansa reservoir is 128.13 metres. And today it is 126.31 metres. Therefore, Tansa is about two metres away from the flood level.

Whereas the overflow level of the Vihar reservoir is 80.12 metres and today the level is 77.60 metres, hence it is one and a half metre away from the overflow level.
