Mumbai: The action taken by Hindu organizations under the leadership of former MP Sambhajiraj Chhatrapati to remove encroachment on the huge Gadh fort of Kolhapur took a violent turn. Actually, the police did not allow anyone to enter the fort, but during this time the angry mob set fire to and vandalized some houses in Gajpur village adjacent to the fort. Along with this, there was heavy stone pelting between the two communities. In Gajpur, the agitators entered the village and vandalized vehicles and damaged seven big vehicles and three motorcycles. In this incident, the protesters also vandalized some shops and set them on fire. 12 policemen including seven officers were also injured in this incident.

According to the details received in this regard, this huge fort of historical importance has been encroached upon on a large scale in the last few years. Due to this illegal construction, there was a lot of anger among Shiva lovers and citizens. Meanwhile, former MP Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje announced that he would protest against the encroachment on Sunday, July 14. Under this, thousands of Shiva lovers from Pune, Sangli, Satara including Kolhapur district reached the foothills of the fort from five o'clock on Sunday evening. Heavy police force was deployed at the foothills and the protesters were not allowed to enter the fort. After some time, the agitators suddenly became aggressive and stormed the Muslimmanwadi area of ​​​​Gajpur, two kilometers away from Vishwagad and attacked the houses living here, set fire to the vehicles parked outside the houses and targeted them. As soon as the incident was reported, high officials like District Magistrate Amol Yedge, S.P. Mahendra Pandit, Sahuwadi-Panhala Provincial Officer Sameer Shingar, Tehsildar Ramling Chavan reached the spot with a large police force. These people took immediate action and pacified the protesters and rioters.

After this incident, the police have registered a case against more than 500 people including former MP Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje. In such a situation, the police should stop obstruction in government work. Further action has been taken by registering a crime under more than ten different sections including holding a meeting in violation of orders, damaging public property. The police have so far detained 21 people in this case, including residents of Kolhapur and Ichalkaranji. Police officials said that more people will be arrested in this case.

After this incident, the administration has made preparations to remove encroachment on Vishal. For this, six teams of the district administration have reached Vishgarh and efforts have been made to remove the encroachment. In this regard, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje told the media that I have been requesting to remove the encroachment here for the last one and a half years, but the administration is not paying attention. If action had been taken in time and the encroachment had been removed, this situation would not have arisen.
