New Delhi, July 15 (HS). Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and workers on Monday protested outside the offices of power distribution companies in the national capital against the increase in electricity rates. BJP leaders demanded the withdrawal of the increase in Power Purchase Adjustment Cost (PPAC).

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said that the Delhi government is looting the people of Delhi in the name of PPAC. PPAC is illegal and should be withdrawn immediately. He said that BJP workers will continue to protest in the interest of the people of Delhi until the Delhi government withdraws the increased rates.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva protested by sitting outside the power company located at Karkardooma. MP Manoj Tiwari led the sit-in at NDPL office, Hudson Lane. MP Ramveer Singh Bidhuri protested outside BSES office located at Vasant Kunj. MP Praveen Khandelwal protested at Town Hall Chowk in Chandni Chowk. MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat protested outside 220 kV grid sub-station located in Najafgarh. MP Bansuri Swaraj protested outside 33 kV located at Shankar Road. Ramesh Bidhuri protested at the electricity office located at Safdarjung.

It is noteworthy that in June, the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission allowed the electricity distribution companies (DISCOM) to increase the power purchase adjustment cost (PPAC) by two to six percent. This will be added to the consumers' bills. PPAC is a surcharge imposed by the DISCOM to compensate for the fluctuations in the power purchase cost. This year it has increased by 6.15 percent and has increased to 8.75 percent.
