After the incident, the angry crowd set the bus on fire and beat its driver to death. He has been admitted to Ranchi RIMS, where his condition remains critical.

The local people created a lot of ruckus at the incident spot. The Panki police which reached the spot after getting the information was chased away by the angry mob. Journalists and people taking photographs were mistreated. The police remained a silent spectator at the incident spot. After getting the information, many senior police officers from the district headquarters reached the spot. Even after persuasion, the anger of the people did not subside. The incident happened at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.

It is said that the auto was stopped at Kundri bus stand and some passengers were getting down. Omprakash Vishwakarma, younger brother of local resident Kashinath Vishwakarma, had also got down from the auto (JH03W 2232) and was paying the fare. In the meantime, a JPS passenger bus going from Daltonganj to Panki hit the auto from the front. In this accident, five passengers travelling in the auto were injured while Omprakash Vishwakarma died.

On getting information about the incident, the local people sent the injured to MRMCH while some people chased the fleeing bus. The bus dragged Omprakash's dead body and broke the forest department's checkpost. Meanwhile, Omprakash's dead body fell there. Even after this, the driver kept driving the bus out of fear instead of stopping it. The bus was stopped near Ramsagar Sahad turn, about a kilometer ahead. The driver Sanyog Ram Mochi was caught and beaten up badly.

In the same sequence, the villagers took the passengers out of the bus and set it on fire. During this time the police remained a silent spectator. After this incident, traffic on the Daltonganj-Panki main road came to a halt. There was chaos from Sahad Mor to Kundri Chhath Talab. The uncontrolled crowd was neither understanding the police nor allowing anyone to make videos, they were snatching the mobile phones from whoever was watching. During this time the crowd also clashed with the Panki police. In such a situation, police station in-charge Uttam Tiwari had to retreat.
