Let us tell you that Mahendra Bhagat defeated his rival BJP candidate Sheetal Angural by a huge margin of 37325 votes. Mahendra Bhagat got a total of 55246 votes while Sheetal Angural could get only 17921 votes. Sheetal Angural won the election from this seat on AAP ticket in the 2022 assembly elections, but before the Lok Sabha elections, she resigned from the post of MLA and joined BJP.
AAP candidate Mahender Bhagat started defeating his opponents in the very first round. His lead was not broken until the last 13th round. Congress party candidate Surinder Kaur, who won from Jalandhar during the recent Lok Sabha elections, slipped to third place.
District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said that Congress candidate Surinder Kaur got 16757 votes, Shiromani Akali Dal's Surjit Kaur got 1242 votes, Bahujan Samaj Party's Binder Kumar Lakha got 734 votes and Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar)'s Sarabjit Singh Khalsa got 662 votes.
As independent candidates, Ajay Kumar Bhagat got 346 votes, Ajay Pal Valmiki got 62 votes, Aarti got 43 votes, Indrajit Singh got 139 votes, Deepak Bhagat got 94 votes, Neetu Shutteranwala got 236 votes, Raj Kumar Saki got 113 votes, Varun Kaler Wari got 192 votes and Vishal got 135 votes. Similarly, 687 voters pressed the NOTA button.
