ByElections in India: The by-elections held on 13 assembly seats in seven states have given BJP sleepless nights. Out of these 13 seats, India Alliance has won 10 seats. BJP got two seats while an independent candidate won the election. The results of the by-elections before the Haryana and Maharashtra assembly elections have shaken the ground under BJP's feet.
Let us tell you that voting for the by-election was held on four seats in West Bengal, three in Himachal Pradesh, two in Uttarakhand, one seat each in Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Tamil Nadu. AAP's Mahinder Bhagat defeated BJP's Sheetal Angural by a margin of 37,325 votes in Jalandhar West seat of Punjab.
In West Bengal, TMC defeated BJP candidates on all four seats Raiganj, Ranaghat Dakshin, Bagda and Maniktala. In Raiganj, the party's candidate Krishna Kalyani won 50,077 votes against BJP's Manas Kumar Ghosh, in Ranaghat Dakshin, BJP's Manoj Kumar Vishwas named Adhikari Mukut won 74,485 votes, in Bagda, Madhuparna Thakur won 74,251 votes against BJP's Binne Kumar Vishwas. Supati Pandey from Maniktala defeated BJP's Kalyan Chaubey by 62312 votes.
Congress's Lakhpat Singh Butola and Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin won both the seats of Uttarakhand, Badrinath and Mangalore. Butola defeated former minister and BJP leader Rajendra Singh Bhandari by a margin of 5,224 votes on the Badrinath seat. Similarly, Nizamuddin defeated BJP's Kartar Singh Bhadana by a margin of just 422 votes on the Mangalore seat.
In Madhya Pradesh, BJP's Kamlesh Pratap Singh defeated Congress' Dhiren Shah Inwati by a margin of 3,027 votes from Amarwara seat. Independent candidate Shankar Singh has won the Rupauli seat in Bihar. He defeated Kaladhar Prasad Mandal of Janata Dal (U) by 8,246 votes. In Tamil Nadu, ruling DMK's A. PMK's Anbumani was included in Shiva NDA. He won from Vikravandi constituency by a margin of 67,757 votes.
On the other hand, Congress has welcomed the victory of the candidates of the 'Bharat' alliance in the by-elections. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that these results have made it clear that the web of 'fear and confusion' woven by the BJP has been broken. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge praised the party workers and said that people have rejected the arrogance, misgovernance and negative politics of the BJP.
Congress said that the results point towards the changing political environment in the country. Kharge said that this is a proof of the falling political credibility of Modi-Shah. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that the people of Devbhoomi, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have trusted the Congress and people have come to know that the politics of misleading people 100 years ago and 100 years later will not benefit the country.
