There is excitement for Rajya Sabha elections from UP to Himachal Pradesh. After cross voting of more than half a dozen SP MLAs in UP, now its game is being seen in Himachal Pradesh also. Now there is news of cross voting of more than half a dozen Congress MLAs in the elections for Rajya Sabha seats in Himachal Pradesh. At least nine Congress MLAs voted in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, defying the whip issued by the Congress.
There are two factions of Congress in Himachal Pradesh
It is also being said that more than nine Congress MLAs can cross-vote in favor of BJP. The factionalism of Himachal Congress is being said to be the main reason behind cross voting in the Rajya Sabha elections. Actually, there are two factions of Congress in Himachal Pradesh. A section of Virbhadra Singh's supporters is under the leadership of Pratibha Singh. The second group is of MLAs and leaders who are with CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu.
BJP fields Harsh Mahajan against Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi
BJP has fielded Harsh Mahajan, who was once close to Virbhadra Singh, against Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi. It is discussed that Harsh Mahajan has good relations with many Congress MLAs. Congress was also alert about this. A day earlier, in the legislative party meeting, MLAs were asked to vote on party lines. Congress also issued a whip saying that MLAs will have to show the polling agent for whom they are voting.
Harsh Mahajan has said that I know everyone. I have asked everyone to vote
BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan has said that I know everyone. I have asked everyone to vote. Now we will know when the result will come. On the question of cross voting, he said that if this has happened then it is our fault. Congress MLAs are angry with the working style of the Chief Minister. This resentment led to cross voting which is their fault. It is noteworthy that cross voting in Rajya Sabha elections in Himachal Pradesh is being considered as a sign of Operation Lotus.
Sukhu threatened the government like this
Due to Rajya Sabha replacement calculations, the comfortable Congress government will also be in trouble. Actually there are 68 MLAs in Himachal Pradesh Assembly. The Sukhu government also has the support of 40 Congress MLAs, 25 BJP and three other MLAs including two independents. That means Congress has 43 MLAs and BJP has 25 MLAs. Now if nine MLAs cross-vote in favor of BJP instead of Congress, then in such a situation BJP's vote figure will reach 34. Congress will also reduce first preference votes from 43 to 34. To win the seat, 35 first preference votes will be required.
The magic figure required for majority in the 68-member Himachal Assembly is 35 MLAs.
If no party has this numerical strength then the matter will go to second preference vote. If this happens, BJP is confident that many Congress MLAs will give second choice vote to Harsh and the party will win. If this happens then it will be an alarm bell for the Sukhu government also. The magic figure required for majority in the 68-member Himachal Assembly is 35 MLAs.
