Patna, July 13 (HS). Counting of votes for the by-election held on Rupauli assembly seat of Bihar is underway. In the seventh round of counting so far, independent candidate Shankar Singh has left JDU candidate Kaladhar Mandal behind. Independent candidate Shankar Singh is giving a tough fight to the JDU candidate. The independent candidate is leading the JDU candidate by 1036 votes. A total of 11 candidates are trying their luck on this seat.
JDU candidate Kaladhar Mandal from NDA has got 36101 votes. Independent candidate Shankar Singh is leading with 37131 votes. RJD candidate from Mahagathbandhan, Bima Bharti, who has been an MLA for five times, is out of the race. Bima Bharti has got 20253 votes.
Purnia DM Kundan Kumar said that 28 tables have been set up in two halls for counting of votes. Counting of votes will be completed in 12 rounds. Tight security arrangements have been made for the counting of votes.
Bima Bharti was the MLA from Rupauli seat. She left the post of MLA for the Lok Sabha elections and separated from JDU and contested the Lok Sabha elections from RJD but she lost. After this, elections were held here on 10th July.
