New Delhi, July 12 (HS). A delegation of the Royal Government of Bhutan led by Jam Tshering, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Government of Bhutan, met Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh on Friday.
During this meeting, issues related to air quality, climate change, forests, natural resources, wildlife and renewable energy were discussed. On this occasion, India also suggested holding a meeting of the Joint Working Group.
During the meeting, Kirti Vardhan Singh thanked the Bhutanese minister for joining India's global initiative International Big Cat Alliance. He said that both countries share a similar geographical location, ecosystem and similar values of democracy. He said that climate change is a common concern for both countries.
During the meeting, Tshering informed about the successful hosting of the Sustainable Finance for Tiger Landscapes conference in Paro in April 2024. He said that Bhutan is already a carbon-free country and derives a large part of its energy from hydropower. f
